Shanie Liyanagamage

Shanie Liyanagamage received a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia. She’s currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). She worked at the MDDF under Dr. Loeb’s advice and guidance from 2011 to 2013. During that time, her focus was on developing the tactile sensing of the Barrett robot to enable it to intelligently decide on which object characteristics are most important for exploration when performing a specific task. The goal is to provide a greater amount of dexterity to existing prosthetic hands, in order to improve the quality of life of their users.
